Contract Web Developer – June – July 2011.

Kevin spent the early part of the Summer of 2011 working as a contractor for NASA (with Perot Systems, subcontracting with TEKsystems), producing Web sites in WordPress and the NASA custom CMS. As a life-long science nerd, Kevin was thrilled by the opportunity.

At first, the main project was to be called “NASA Cultural Convergence.” Early consultations with the client, NASA scientist Dr. Yvonne Clearwater, resulted in a brand name change to “ArtSpace.” When the decision was made to switch the project from a custom WordPress site, Kevin took about 2 days to learn the custom NASA CMS, and proceeded to design the main brand logo (above) build a prototype, and to train the New Media Innovations Team, led by Dr. Clearwater, in it’s operation. As a side project, Kevin also designed and built what he believes was NASA’s first mobile-responsive Web site, for a conference on Quantum Technologies.

Although this was a quick add-on project, for a NASA quantum computing conference, it was one of Kevin’s (and NASA’s) first mobile-responsive designs
